CHAMBERS OF DEATH

1995
In the beginning, I bought doom 2. Once I realized it was more difficult to edit for Doom 2 with doom tools (which I found before the thoughts even crossed my mind to buy either doom) I then bought Doom 1 aka The Ultimate Doom. This one had four episodes and wasn't very editor friendly at the time due to none of the editors being up to date that I had. Mind you, when I started editing doom levels I hadn't played through doom yet. Honestly I hadn't beat anything past the first episode of the shareware and bought it specifically because I knew you could make your own levels if you bought the registered version and found the right tools. With that in mind, if you are looking for classic traditional "good" 90s levels, you probably should be on a different website for that one.

Whenever I first started making levels for doom, I tried everything and couldn't figure out why they didn't run. I finally got one to run so I just replicated the weird shape over and over again that day and made a megawad. Every level was exactly the same but with different enemy line-ups and texture themes. It worked I guess for learning the ways of doom itself, the enemies, the texture names and what all is available to use. My parents also adopted special needs kids so I had siblings that really enjoyed the ease of these levels, especially with cheat codes. They were 5, if that says anything. Anyways, When I finally started figuring out more I still released all this trash on /idgames back when it was hosted on ftp.cdrom.com in the mid 90s, a very long time ago, and caught some negative flack for it even though they were basically a joke. Regardless I haven't deleted a single level I made in the 90s. It was too important to have something to play and I didn't see a point in thinking something wasn't good enough if I'm making it for me and siblings. Its still true I should not have ever put them on the internet on a site meant for actual doom levels.

If you are curious, here is the three episode nonsense I speak of, Chambers of Death.

CHAMBERS OF DEATH 2

1995
In the same spirit of releasing too much of my original primitive wads of shit, here is Chambers of Death 2: Soul Piracy. It follows the same format of course though I start experimenting with adding things like multiple chambers, doors (sort of) and other doom traits more advanced than a square-ish Z shaped room with an exit switch full of enemies that are often too difficult. I had been restructuring at least the enemy portions and fixing bad sectors for a trilogy remake in PK3 format, but I have yet to finish. I also had a Chambers 1-4 quadrilogy PK3 file that I didn't finish.

You can also simply give the original a play

CHAMBERS OF DEATH 3

1995

...And finally here is the conclusion to my trilogy of 1995, my first. It starts out arctic and then goes through a volcano, into space, and then further out. It originally was called something else but I'm sticking to a David Bowie reference with "Chambers Of Death III: Spiders From Mars." The soundtrack is also pretty cool compared to the others!

Give it a try!

DOOM BATTLEFIELDS

1995
I shot for a better "shape" than Chambers of Death with Doom Battlefields. It is more of a practice war-like setup. However, there are too hard of enemies to do much also than just run straight through like you did on Chambers of Death 1-3. Its more a game of avoidance again, and isn't that fun. I am, however, working on a reboot/sequel just because I'm weird and I like playing these weird ass old wads as sort of regressive therapy if you will. I was 14 when I made them, and those times were great.

The only real existance online at the moment I've been able to re-find is on /idgames archive of doomworld.com, originally uploaded to ftp.cdrom.com in the 90s of course and migrated I guess. BATTLEFIELDS but it also includes CHAMBERS 1-3 the very originals.

DOOM NIGHTMARES

1995
Further into learning, then experimenting next, comes the Doom Nightmares trilogy. It started out with small shaped rooms you run through, then I started to figure things out with weird results in some cases, and kept them. This is the beginning of actual doom modding unfortunately, though I'd say Nightmares III is more that than the previous ones.

DOOM NIGHTMARES II

1995
I have found a reference to this, on doomworld in the forum system as a comment: here.

There is also this playthrough some poor soul had the patience to record!

DOOM NIGHTMARES III

Now fully functional, without all the detail and fun! There are doors elevators and other such things which function now, and there are also weird levels that look like shit still but that didn't really matter in 1995 when you were 14.

DOOM NIGHTMARES IV aka DOOM CHAOS

1995
Back when it was called doom chaos 3, here is a playthrough

Welcome to chaos. This has since been renamed Nightmares 4 and then "Doom Chaos" because the naming convention was originally strange. I made a doom chaos 3 all while having 1 and 2 being planned on graph paper. I lost the graph paper after laziness prevented me from actually making the levels, and for years had just #3. It was renamed Chaos '95 for decades also but still existed online as CHAOS3.

CHAMBERS OF DEATH 4

February 2026
This 25-level throwback in 2025 encapsulated a bunch of all new GZDoom-style levels using Z-Scripting and ACS for Doom II. It is the first of a few brand new nostalgia releases made to relive the past.

NANO-NIGHTMARES

AUGUST 2026
This was made exclusively for WAD MANIA ONE on Doomworld, a throwback homage to the old shovelware cd-rom collections. This one is digitally available for download and features a bunch of random D!ZONE quality bullshit! I was originally going to call this Nightmares 5 and CHAOS was going to be called Nightmares 4. Unfortunately sizes don't add up, and this one has smaller levels. I didn't feel like making another full wad with regular sized levels just to put on an obscure shovelware compilation though the thought had crossed my mind!

NEW BATTLEFIELDZ

Unfinished
A Work In Progress... Currently but not permanently abandoned for other things. This one is just for fun though I already planned in text what all levels on all five episodes will be. It will also be for a ZDoom-derivitive source port such as GZDOOM or UZDOOM. Not as boring as the first, not as impossible, but not very exciting still. I'm just paying homage to 1995 with three remake mods/tributes to my first levels and the era of time spent toying with them for the fun of it. Yes, this is probably insane. Ah well.
