|These may be some pretty shitty creations from way back in 1995 when I was merely 14 years old, but to me they bring back fond memories outside of the realm of doom itself. You know, real life, family eras and whatnot. I'm sticking these here simply for fun, and because they exist. You won't find anything state of the art even for '94 on here. It was not to my knowledge that uploading these long ago led to a /newstuff chronicles review board of any sort. My apologies ;)|
NIGHTMARES OF LOKI (1999)|
In 1999 there was no knowledge of source ports until this mod was released finally in 2003. There were promises I would start on a hi-def version using jdoom/doomsday, but the reviews were so bad that I had discontinued work shortly after loki plagued doomworld. Nightmares of Loki was my attempt without a HUB-enabled hexen-style source port with ACS that had hubs. Each map was its own hub and set of offspring sub-levels. You go in one, do some things, the second opens, you backtrack, and it was just one huge switch hunt after a while. The bad reviews got into detail, previous mods, boringness, and the highest rated portion was unoriginal, and was the MIDI music I used back then consisting of a lot of industrial stuff like Nine Inch Nails and a few grunge greats in my opinion by Nirvana. I got 2/10 on that.
So what I thought would be a pretty cool puzzly change when not many used modified textures at the time (though I was into the CD-ROMs and not the website) tanked HARD! This was probably one of the most hated .wad files ever uploaded to Doomworld, which kind of freaks me out. If you're looking to make a mod in the doomworld community, learn from me and don't attempt anything like my first 10 megawad releases just to have made something when you just got doom fresh out of the box with intent to use your map editors ALL WHILE never having had beat doom itself! Someone suggested a walkthrough which years later I was actually tempted to make, as well as remake every level to be more detailed and less of a switchhunt slaughter maze, but then I thought about it and that was bad review that could have potentially changed out of hundreds. Man, this did a number on me! I quit for a long time, and just find doom too fun to stop with now. I only release levels on websites and not the /idgames archive anymore.
So here you have it, my opus of yesteryear which I will try now to not mention in the forums or admit to as I have even changed my alias/username because of this. I also liked the old name I used in 2000, dybbuk, so I went back to that. I even found this website that had like 20 logos in my attempts and stuck with the one I used for Dybbuk's World. I will keep these here as sort of a learning experience and use the miles of bad reviews as constructive criticism. I was just messing around mainly seeing what all could be done in vanilla (I still didn't get past the tip of the iceberg) and hope to take more serious approaches in the future. And of course marijuana isn't my friend. I saw a review bringing that up. I was never an addict I was just around it and bored. I don't think it really effected the level design as it would have been bad anyway ;)
